About CrossFit

What is CrossFit?+

CrossFit is a general strength and conditioning programme based on functional movements performed at high intensity and constantly varied. These movements typically fall into three categories: Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics, and metabolic conditioning (cardio). CrossFit is the fastest-growing training method in the world, delivering the most complete physiological and neurological adaptation possible, regardless of age or fitness level.

By training CrossFit, we aim to develop and improve all physical capacities: cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, muscular endurance, strength, flexibility, accuracy, power, agility, balance, coordination, and speed.

In a typical session, athletes warm up, practise a strength or skill segment, then tackle the WOD (Workout of the Day). The WOD changes daily — no fixed routines — promoting adaptation to the unknown. It typically combines functional exercises performed at high intensity over 5 to 20 minutes.

Our primary equipment is our own bodies, but we also use specific tools: Olympic bars and rings, kettlebells, free weights, ropes, boxes, balls, tyres, bands, chains, and more.

Central to CrossFit is that it is the Sport of Fitness — the method fosters natural camaraderie, healthy competition, and the fun of sport by tracking times, scores, and performance standards that vary from WOD to WOD.

Through a unique programme based on natural, functional, and ever-varied movements, CrossFit delivers a complete, differentiated, challenging, and highly efficient workout — mentally, aesthetically, and for your overall health.

What's the difference between functional training and CrossFit?+

Many people confuse functional training with CrossFit. We've met plenty of people who say they do CrossFit, but after a few questions it becomes clear they're doing functional training — not CrossFit. This happens because CrossFit is trendy and some personal trainers and gyms use the registered CrossFit trademark loosely, creating confusion.

The key distinction: a CrossFit workout is functional, but not all functional training is CrossFit. To qualify as CrossFit, training must be functional AND performed at high intensity AND constantly varied. The CrossFit programme develops all 10 physical capacities:

• Muscular strength • Muscular endurance • Cardiovascular endurance • Flexibility • Speed • Agility • Motor coordination • Balance • Power • Reaction time
